Scene on Memorial Day
This Memorial Day weekend was s busy one for me, but I did manage to spend a little time in Southold and Greenport on Long Island’s north fork. Of course I had my camera with me…
Whenever I visit Greenport I park on 3rd St. by the Shelter Island ferry dock and East End Seaport Museum. This saves me the headache of dealing with the impossible parking situation on Rt. 25/Main St..
By chance this time I ended up parked directly in front of the Chowder Pot Pub. I’ve never been there before and the temptation was irresistible. I sat on the deck outside overlooking Greenport Harbor, had a pint and some wings, and enjoyed some live music too. Not bad at all…
Then I took a walk around town and stopped by Crabby Jerry’s. This is right next door to Claudio’s Clam Bar (so close that I could hear their band) and much less crowded. There I enjoyed a pint of Greenport Harbor Brewing Summer Ale while watching the boats come and go and the crazy crowds at Claudio’s.
It was back to Chowder Pot for a quick snack and then back to mom’s house in Southold.
what a great weekend it must have been…
I was absolutely low profile and took the kids to Cutchogue, searching for the Indian Fort I instead saw the old Eglish house (I love old stuff, that’s it) and found one pretty beach I’d never dreamed of.
What a privilege living here!

That’s a miniature horse not a pony…There’s a few driving clubs out your way and quite a few members drive mini’s.

Mariana, It was a great weekend, but way too short. I was in Greenport for only about 4 hours. Could have spent the entire day…
Claudia, thanks for the correction. I knew something didn’t look right about that “pony.” It looked too much like a full grown horse.
As he rode by I asked if I could use his picture on my website. He just waved and said, “Sure, whatever.”

Hi Bill,
I’m the guy with the miniature horse. Nice picture, but you said Fast Eddy (the horse of course) was smiling?
There are no miniature horse clubs on the North Fork. Eddy is 18 years old and I have been driving him on the streets of Southold for the past 14 years. I just heard of a miniature horse club on the South Fork, but they apparently are fairly new and do not do any driving.
It was a beautiful weekend.
Take care.

Charles, thanks for dropping by. When I saw you coming down the road I just had to stop and take a picture. I’ve been hanging around Southold for over 10 years now and I’ve only seen you once before, and didn’t have a camera with me. I’ve sent you the original pic by email.
P.S. Who says Eddy wasn’t smiling? 🙂
